New Work

Marissa Vogl is best known for her large-scale abstractions.

Born and raised in Montana, she now resides and paints in Charleston, SC. Vogl’s work is a response

to her observations of life’s beauty, most often relating to florals and landscapes.

The emotional and energetic response leads to intentional mark-making

and exploration of vivid color palettes that create a spontaneous harmony.

VARIETY SHOW: Marissa Vogl Solo Exhibition

May 1 - 22

Opening celebration: Friday, May 1, 5-8pm

Variety Showexplores process experimentation, and the freedom of creative expression. In this latest series, Marissa Vogl embraces a fluid, intuitive approach, allowing each piece to unfold without constraint. The work serves as a “tip of the hat” to the spirit of creating and what happens when an artist follows curiosity, perhaps even shifting techniques and discovering something new in the moment. The result is a collection that feels both personal and expansive, rooted in the idea that creating is, first and foremost, for the maker.

“This body of work is really about freedom,” says Vogl. “A reminder that we can create whatever we want, however we want, in that moment. When we allow ourselves to work that way, there’s a kind of honesty that comes through, something more human, more connected.”

Alongside her exploration of the process, Vogl’s work carries an undercurrent of optimism and urgency, drawing attention to the natural world, particularly Mother Earth and her waters, and prompting reflection on our relationship to it.
